Obituary

Sue (Shidler) Schumacher of Springdale, Arkansas passed away on Saturday, May 24, 2025 after a courageous battle with cancer. She was born in Fairfield, Iowa on December 17, 1945 to the late William and Frances (Stalcup) Shidler. Sue graduated from Avoha High School in Avoca, Iowa.  In 1967, Sue earned a degree in Business Administration Education from the University of Iowa.  She and Carl married in 1966.  Their first residence together was in Cheyenne, Wyoming. They were stationed there due to Carl's military service at the Francis E. Warren Air Force Base.  Their son, Scott was born on base. Sue taught business administration at Cheyenne High School. After Carl's discharge from the Air Force, they moved to Minneapolis, Minnesota where their daughter, Jill was born.

Carl and Sue relocated to Nevada, Iowa where she taught high school for several years. After moving to Des Moines, Iowa Sue began a career in retail marketing, specializing in Home and Fashion.  They then moved to Fayetteville, Arkansas where Sue owned and operated The Copper Pig gift store until 2006. She spent several years working as the Volunteer Coordinator at Habitat for Humanity.  They moved to Branson, Missouri for eight years to semi-retire but returned to Springdale to be near family. Sue continued to work in retail part-time at Logo-n-Stitch with her good friends, Tami Scoggins and Linda Davis. She enjoyed working with customers and staging the store during each changing season.

To know Sue was to know her great fondness for shopping (especially for purses), design, and Christmas decorating. She was a voracious reader and loved spending time with her grandchildren. She enjoyed weekend breakfast outings with her family and frequent outings where she and Carl would split a beer and a meal. One of her favorite things to do was to sit with Carl on their porch and enjoy the landscape enhancements they made to their home. Sue was preceded in death by her brother, George Shidler.

Sue is survived by her husband, Carl Schumacher; son, Scott Schumacher of Des Moines, Iowa; daughter Jill (Matt) Simm of Springdale, Arkansas; two grandchildren, Grant Simm and Lauren Simm; brother, Sam Scheidler.
