IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Sally Tanya
Walter
September 21, 1941 – May 10, 2024
Sally Tanya Walter, a beloved mother, wife, and friend, passed away Friday, May 10,2024 at the age of 82 in Springdale, Arkansas. She was born September 21,1941 in Wichita Falls, Texas to Ouida Pearl and William Bradley Holder. She moved to Bentonville, Arkansas in 1973 and lived in Jonesboro, Arkansas and Valdosta, Georgia before returning to Northwest Arkansas in 2017. Sally lived her life well and touched the hearts of all who knew her with her kindness and generosity. She had a sassy side that balanced out the sweet. Her irreverent smile and her openhanded generosity were her trademarks. If someone remarked on something she had, she would give it to them. Sally loved reading and learning and passed those two loves down to her children.
Her first job was at Ozark Drapery in Rogers, Arkansas before she found her true calling in hospital administration, first at Bates Hospital in Bentonville, Arkansas, then St. Mary's Hospital in Rogers, Arkansas, then St. Bernard's Hospital in Jonesboro, Arkansas, and finally South Georgia Medical Center in Valdosta, Georgia. Sally loved to travel, she and her husband Sam traveled all around the United States. After she retired, Sally focused on her family and friends. She treasured the time she spent with her children going to museums, lunches, family gatherings, and just being together.
Sally was married to L. Wayne Williams (d. 2020) for twenty-five years before they divorced. She was preceded in death by her husband of thirty-two years, Samuel Basil Walter (Sam); her sister, Phyllis Pallilo, of Niagara Falls, New York; her brother, Ron Holder, of Joliet, Illinois.
Sally is survived by three daughters, LaDonna Shub and her husband Dan of Bentonville, Arkansas, Lesa Rohrer and her husband Steve of Yukon, Oklahoma and Laurie Williams and her husband Michael Batt of New Orleans, Louisiana; Sam's three daughters, Terrie Johnson and her partner, Mike Wagner of Shawnee, Kansas, Sandra Bowers and her partner, Joe Deleo of Andrews, Indiana and Laura Vachon and her husband, Rick of Yoder, Indiana; twelve grandchildren; twenty-one great-grandchildren. For those of us left bereft by her passing, she would wish for us the peace that surpasses all understanding.
A celebration of life will be 5:30 p.m. Monday, July 15, 2024, at Mildred B. Cooper Memorial Chapel, 504 Memorial Dr, Bella Vista, AR 72714.
