Patsy Louise "Pat" Sargent, age 85 and longtime area resident, died Sunday, February 6, 2022. She was born October 23, 1936 in Durant, Oklahoma, to Hershel and Eulah (Sullivan) Shull. Pat came from a long line of educators. She taught Science at Lee Elementary School in Springdale.
Pat had many talents, one being an accomplished pianist beginning all of her at home performances with Stormy Weather . Pat was a published author and enjoyed writing about "Ole' Barney the Bear Killer." She was very animated and loved to tell children and adults alike about the adventures of Barney. Together, with her husband Dave, they wrote and published over 400 children's books and the two enjoyed traveling. They spent over 25 years going to schools and encouraging reading and writing with children.
During the summertime Pat enjoyed being a part of the Fayetteville Farmer's Market. Pat and Dave made homemade jellies, jams, breads, candies and had a working garden. Pat loved getting her hands dirty. She was very gifted with her flowers and vegetables. Pat, being a Southern lady, liked to prepare for the winters and made everything from pickles to canned tomatoes and had fun doing the preparation.
Above all she was a devoted wife, mother and humanitarian. In her eyes all people were equal and deserved the same respect and understanding.
