Opal Shirlene (Whittenburg) Smith, age 72, died on Friday, January 13, 2023, in Fayetteville, Arkansas. She was born June 27, 1950, in Harrison, Arkansas to the late John Elgin and Mary Estaleen (Hayes) Whittenburg. She had a long career and retired from Springdale Public schools. She enjoyed playing card games and dominos with her family. In her spare time, she also liked reading and making puzzles. She was preceded in death by three brothers, Louis Ray Tennison, Roy Dean Whittenburg, David Arthur Whittenburg; sister, Sandra Loretta Whittenburg Hawk.

She is survived by her son, Clyde Perkins of Caldwell, Kansas; daughter, Audra Smith of Fayetteville, Arkansas; brothers, Donnie Whittenburg of Goshen, Arkansas, Randy Whittenburg of Fayetteville, Arkansas; sisters, Betty Hayes of Huntsville, Arkansas, Helen Sharp of Mayfield, Arkansas, Janice Pritchett of Stillwell, Oklahoma, Nina and her husband Leeroy Hittson of Fayetteville, Arkansas, Joann and husband Randall Smith of Elkins, Arkansas; grandson, Logan Lynn Smith of Garfield, Arkansas and a host of extended family.

The casket bearers for Opal will be Jeremy Whittenburg, Jeff Whittenburg, Eric Hittson, Daniel Smith, Coy Smith, Toby Whittenburg, Cody Whittenburg, Logan Lynn Smith.

Graveside services will be 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, January 17, 2023, at Friendship Cemetery of Springdale, Arkansas with Charles Bell officiating.
