Obituary

O'Dell (Caswell) Straight, age 99, went to be with her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, on Thursday, October 13, 2022 at her home in Alma with her husband by her side.  She was born September 17, 1923 in Bronte, Texas to Rufus and Luteen Teague, and was one of eleven children.  O'Dell was loved by all her family and her many friends.  O'Dell was a bank teller for nine years at First State Bank in Springdale.  She was a member of First Baptist Church in Fort Smith where she loved the music and especially loved the Pastors Class taught by Dale Thompson.

She loved to sing songs of praise and performed with her identical twin sister, Willie Belle Wood, as "The Teague Twins".  They performed together for more than 70 years, starting with Ernest Tubb on regional radio station KGKL in San Angelo.  It was Tubb who started them playing instruments, "Dell" playing guitar and "Bell" playing mandolin.  When Tubb went to Nashville, the Grand Ole Opry wanted the twins to be a part of the Opry, however being in their teens their father thought it best for them to remain on the family farm near San Angelo.  They would go on to perform all across the nation at motorhome conventions attended by as many as 8,000 people.  The twins were also members of the Little Ole Opera in West Fork and sang there for about four years.

While living in Garland, Texas, O'Dell and her husband were members of Prestonwood Baptist Church in Dallas.  O'Dell sang in the choir of this 10,000-member church.  She was also invited to sing with a 2,000-member choir for President Ronald Reagan's prayer breakfast at Reunion Center in downtown Dallas.

She was preceded in death by her mother and father; four brothers, Dan, Halley, R.L., and Melvin Teague; five sisters, Iva Brown, Iola Lane, Lois Franks, Bonnie Pounds, her twin, Willie Belle Wood; and two stepdaughters, Jessica Straight and Jamie Nichole Hensley.

O'Dell is survived by her husband of 47 years, Leon Straight of the home in Alma; one daughter, Loretta Galloway and husband Randall of Spring Valley, Arkansas; one sister, Geneva Case of Fort Worth, Texas; two grandsons, Randy Galloway and wife Michael Ann of Forney, Texas, Rodney Galloway and wife Katie of Spring Valley; five great-grandchildren, Lauren Reed, Hanna Hintz, Hunter Galloway, Micah Galloway, Anessa Galloway; three great-great-grandchildren, Lillian, Tyson, Ellouise; and two stepchildren, Larry Straight and wife Amanda, and Donna Goodnight and husband James all of Huntsville, Arkansas.

A graveside service will be 10:00 a.m. Wednesday, October 19, at Highfill Cemetery with Pastor Don Elmore officiating.
