Obituary

Lorene Loretta Jones, age 89, passed away on March 2, 2025 in Springdale, Arkansas. She was born on November 3, 1935 in Paris, Arkansas to the late Joseph and Margaret Lux Frederick. Lorene was preceded in death by her husband, Earl L. Jones; her brother, Robert Frederick; her sister, Joann Strellner.

She is survived by her three children, Glenn Jones of Springdale, Greg Jones of Springdale and Dr. Laurie Alfrey (Dr. Tony Alfrey) of Tulsa, Oklahoma. She was blessed with five loving grandchildren, Summer Bowman, Autumn Hickman (Paul), Trent Jones, Jason Alfrey and Nick Alfrey. In addition, she has two great-grandchildren, Naomi and Tristan Hickman as well as a host of cousins, nieces and nephews.

Lorene spent most of her childhood in Fort Smith and was a proud graduate of St. Scholastica. Rumor has it that she and her sister Joann tried to jump the fence at the Fort Smith airport when Elvis landed for his induction into the Army at Ft. Chaffee.  Although she didn't meet Elvis, she did meet the true love of her life, Earl who was stationed there.  Lorene was a skilled home maker, but more importantly, she was the "boss" at the Jones Insurance Agency.  She eagerly answered client's phone calls with that polite Southern drawl of hers.  Lorene was very active in the St. Raphael's community, a volunteer at the food pantry and a long-time member of the Women's council.

Lorene enjoyed playing multiple card games, including bridge.  She was a member of the "Wednesday Bridge Club That Plays On Thursday". Originally, the bridge group played on Wednesday, but as time passed many members ran into conflicts with their children school activities so they moved the meeting date to Thursday and adjusted the bridge club name.  A cute way to overcome an obstacle to allow the bridge group to stay intact and continue playing for decades.   Lorene enjoyed watching her children and grandchildren participate in sports and academic competitions. She loved traveling, the Razorbacks and was an avid tennis fan. She never missed Jeopardy, Wheel of Fortune or Dancing with the Stars.  Lorene shared and modeled her strong faith to her children and those around her.
