Obituary

Joseph John "Roll" Doherty, 96, died Thursday, January 11, 2018 at his home in Fayetteville. He was born August 23, 1921 in the Bronx, New York and was raised in an orphanage from the age of 4 after his mother, Mary, died. He worked with the CCC during the depression building camps and cabins, and then enlisted in the Naval Coast Guard during WWII. He worked as a machinist throughout his life for several manufacturing companies.

Roll enjoyed the outdoors hunting and fishing, and traveling the country. He was a member of the Good Sam RV Club. Survivors include two daughters, Patty Unseld, Ginger Alaman and husband Jorge, all of Fayetteville; five grandchildren, Eric Doherty, Tyler, Chelsea and Savannah Amaral, Danielle Doherty; four great-grandchildren, Kirra, Drake, DeAngelo, Ember; and three nieces and two nephews. He was preceded in death by his wife, Florence, and two sons, Joseph, Jr. and Danny.

A memorial service will be 2 p.m. Monday, January 15, at Heritage Funeral Home Chapel.
