Obituary

John William "Bill" Davenport, age 92, died on Friday, December 29, 2023.  He was born on August 23, 1931 in Thorney, Arkansas to John L. and Myrtle (Dunaway) Davenport. John's calloused hands, etched with the stories of a life well-lived, finally stilled. He left behind a legacy woven from love, resilience, and the quiet hum of duty. Widowed after 67 years of marriage to his Zella, their love story remained a legend in the family, a testament to shared laughter and unwavering support. His days as a pipe fitter welder were etched in his strong frame, a badge of honor earned through honest sweat and unwavering dedication. Yet, beneath the calluses, beat a heart overflowing with grace. Family was his compass, his guiding light. He'd move mountains for those he loved, his actions speaking volumes louder than any word. But a special spark ignited in his eyes when he spoke of his time in the army. Fighting wildfires and serving during the Korean War carved a deep sense of pride within him, a quiet heroism woven into the fabric of his being. John wasn't a man of many words, but his life echoed with volumes. He was a pillar of strength, a beacon of unwavering love, and a gentle soul who left the world a little brighter than he found it. His absence leaves a void, but his memory remains a warm ember, forever glowing in the hearts of those he touched. He was preceded in death by his wife, Zella (Burnett) Davenport, daughter, Kathrine Mitchell, three brothers, Jim, Jerry, Joe Davenport, four sisters, Ellen Ledbetter, Mildred Mitchell, Lea Williams and Lois Cordell.

He is survived by two sons, Dale Davenport of Fayetteville, Arkansas, Loy and wife Merri Davenport of Fayetteville, Arkansas; one sister, Faye Filbeck of Rogers, Arkansas; six grandchildren, Kristy Wolfenbarger, Keith Starnes, Sarah Costa, Jennifer Scoville, Alyssa Duggin, Amber Duggin; 13 great grandchildren; one great-great grandchild and a host of extended family.
