Obituary

On December 9 th , 2021 Joan Taylor, 91 years old, died in Springdale, Arkansas.

Joan Marilyn Soderholm was born August 9, 1930 in Duluth, Minnesota to Alfred Carl (1903-1938) and Ida Christine (Helmer) Soderholm (1907-1980) in Duluth, Minnesota at St. Luke's Hospital. Three years later her only sibling Wallace Alfred Soderholm (1933-1987) affectionately known as "Bud" was born at the same hospital. She lived in Calumet until the death of her father when she was 8 years old, at which time she, her mother and her brother moved to her grandparent's small dairy farm in Midway,  Minnesota (fun note: Joan did not like eggs, milk or cheese but she really loved ice cream),. They often visited the other grandparents at the Soderholm sawmill in Adolph, Minnesota, This sawmill is now a historical site and the family Nancy Soderholm Hill and her husband Jim run a lumber company on the family land. Joan went to school in Calumet through 2nd grade, then Hermantown through 8th grade and Graduated from Proctor High School as the valedictorian. Joan went to Moose Lake State Hospital in Moose Lake,  Minnesota for her practical's in Nursing, and then to St. Luke's Hospital for her internship  and became Registered Nurses. She was in the last diploma class from this school.

She married John Bulgier (1932-2006) in February 1, 1955, Joan and John joined the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints and became Mormons. John and Joan had 5 children, Bill, Laurel, Merri, Trish and Jim. Joan married Barney Calvin Taylor also known as "Eli" (1916-1983) in 1969. Quint, Eli's son from his first marriage joined the family and visited at times. In 1970 Joan and Eli had a daughter, Christine. Joan and Eli created the "Good Medicine Society" and Joan was very active in this way of life.

Joan will be greatly missed and much loved forever by her friends and family, e specially her six children, Bill Bulgier (Teresa), Laurel Fitzhugh (Steve), Merri Bright, Trish Potter, Jim Bulgier (Donna) and Christine Taylor (Sherif); h er 17 grandchildren, Cody, Matthew, Justin, Billy, Kristina, Odom, Michael, Victoria, Jennifer, Sarah (1985-2003), Audra, Daren, Tessa, Forrest, Brandon, Jay and Dakota; h er 15 great grandchildren, Corbin, Caylin, Chloe, Alika, Weston, Wyatt, Kayla, Keith, Lauren, Dameon, Mikea, Aidan, Amaya, Jacob and Kaitlyn; and her two great, great-grandchildren, Davyn and Caiden

Joan's life was one of quiet service. She gave generously of her spirit, her time, her space, her love, her wisdom with anyone in need.  So instead of flowers or cards, let's all help someone else—a friend, family member or a stranger, in memory of her long and memorable life.
