James Thomas McFarland ("Mac") passed away on Wednesday, November 15, 2023 at Meadowview Healthcare and Rehab in Huntsville Arkansas. He was born on December 8, 1947, in Danville, Kentucky to Mildred Irene Collins and Woodrow Pershing McFarland. After graduation from Oak Hills High School in Cincinnati, Ohio "Mac" enlisted in the U.S. Air Force. He served in Thailand as an airplane mechanic during the Vietnam War. After the war, Mac lived in the Chicago area for a few years but has lived in the Fayetteville area for over 40 years. For a great number of these years, he worked as an- over-the-road driver for Admiral Moving & Storage in Springdale. He was also involved in the ownership of Lily's Bar on W. Dickson Street as well as several racehorses with different groups. For the past 2 1/2 years he has been a resident of Meadowview Healthcare who provided outstanding care as he suffered with dementia. Mac was preceded in death by parents, Mildred and Woodrow McFarland; sister, Linda Icard; brother, William McFarland.
He is survived by brother and sister-in-law, Paul and Dawna McFarland of Estero, Florida; son, James Pershing McFarland of Las Vegas, Nevada.
A memorial service will be 5:00 p.m. Thursday, December 7, 2023 at Heritage Funeral Home Chapel in Springdale. Grant Siemens will officiate the service. After the service, Mac will be returned to his childhood home and put to rest in Hustonville Cemetery where several generations of his family are buried.
