Elmer B. “Sonny” McKenzie, Jr., age 85, of Springdale, Arkansas passed away on Wednesday, February 25, 2026 at his residence. He was born on June 29, 1940 in Gunnison, Colorado to the late Elmer B. and Lucille (Baker) McKenzie, Sr. He married Chrystene Bowen in Springdale, Arkansas. Sonny honorably served in the US Army. He was a long-time member of Phillips Chapel Freewill Baptist in Springdale, Arkansas. Sonny continued to serve his community where he was a member of Kiwanis and Sertoma. He also served as a Constable in Washington County Arkansas. He was preceded in death by his son, Gregory Neal McKenzie.

Sonny is survived by his loving wife of 66 years, Chrystene McKenzie; son, Jimmie E. McKenzie of Muldrow, Oklahoma; two grandsons, Marty Neal McKenzie and Michael Nathaniel McKenzie; three great grandchildren, Connor McKenzie, Abigail McKenzie and Nolan McKenzie.

Funeral service will be 11:00 a.m. Monday, March 2, 2026 at Heritage Funeral Chapel in Springdale, Arkansas. Visitation will begin at 10:00 a.m. prior to the service. Interment will follow at Elm Springs Cemetery in Elm Springs, Arkansas. www.heritageofnwa.com
