Obituary

Dawn Babette "Babs" Whitehead, 58, took the Lord's hand and He took her Home on December 1, 2022 in Fayetteville, AR. She was born on March 21, 1964 to Elbert "Pig" and Doris   (Pierce) Williams in Wynne, AR.

Babs attended elementary school in Vanndale, AR and then went on to attend high school at Cross County High School where she graduated in 1982. She went on to receive her Bachelors in Early Childhood and Elementary Education from the University of Central Arkansas, graduating in 1986. She taught her first year in Marianna, AR as a 5th grade teacher. She spent her remaining 33 years in the classroom teaching Kindergarten at Watson Primary in Huntsville. While at UCA, she met and fell in love with her husband of 35 years, Keith, and they were married in Springdale on August 7, 1987. Two of her greatest joys in life were giving birth to, and being a mom to both Kendyl and Saxon.

Babs had a true heart of a servant and was always looking for ways to make those around her feel loved and taken care of. She was a 35 year member of Robinson Avenue Church of Christ in Springdale where she taught class, served meals at Celebrate Recovery, and baked for events. An important and valuable work was the 13 years she spent serving at Atlanta Inner-City Ministries camp during the summers. Even in retirement, she busied herself baking, teaching, visiting others, and working at the Arkansas Music Pavilion.

Babs also had a love of travel. Whether it was a quick trip to town or somewhere around the world, she was always ready to go…especially if there was ice cream involved. Her favorite places were always Disney World and any beach.

She was preceded in death by both her parents, Elbert and Doris (Pierce) Williams, and one sister Diana (Williams) Smith.

She is survived by her husband, Keith Whitehead of the home, two children: one daughter, Kendyl Tinsley of Mountain Home, one son, Saxon Whitehead and wife Angela of North Little Rock, one son in law, R.J. Tinsley of Batesville, her two sisters: Debbie Williams of Jonesboro and Donna McCurley(Toby) of Oxford, a host of extended family, and her hundreds of former kindergartners who were always "her kids".

Visitation will be held on Friday, December 9th from 5-7pm at Heritage Funeral Home in Springdale.

Funeral services will be held on Saturday, December 10th at 1pm at Robinson Avenue Church of Christ in Springdale.

Pallbearers will be Richard Keen, Kevin Mayhew, Scott Melton, David O'Neil, Rodney Pless, Pano Poulos, Brent Roach, Marlyn Shafer, Gary Turner, and Harry Ware, with Keith Kilmer officiating the service.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made in Babs' memory to Camp Wyldewood, a special place to her and her family. Babs and Keith both worked at Wyldewood in college, and Kendyl and Saxon both attended as campers, were baptized there and worked as counselors. The entire family continues to support their great work with young people and know Babs would love her legacy to live on in this way.
