David Arthur Whittenburg, 66, died Tuesday, August 10, 2021, in Fayetteville. He was born March 17, 1955, in Springdale to John Elgin and Mary Estaleen Hayes Whittenburg. David was deeply devoted to his family. He enjoyed cooking, farming, and mechanic work. David was a volunteer fire fighter for the Elkins and Goshen communities. He also made sure that all family members had a headstone, so they wouldn't be forgotten. He also worked many years as a school bus mechanic and driver for Elkins, Greenland, Fayetteville, and Huntsville.
He is survived by his loving wife, Sabra Gilbert Whittenburg; two sons, Jeremy Whittenburg and wife Mattie of Alma, and Jeff Whittenburg and wife Amanda of Neosho, Missouri; ten grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; two brothers, Donnie Whittenburg of Goshen and Randy Whittenburg of Fayetteville; six sisters, Betty Hayes of Huntsville, Helen Sharp of Mayfield, Opal Smith of Goshen, Janice Pritchett of Stilwell, Oklahoma, Nina Hittson and husband Leeroy of Fayetteville, and Joann Smith and husband Randall of Mayfield; and numerous loving family members.
Pallbearers – Jeffery Graves, Matthew Brannan, Joshua Burks, Kevin Dickard, Jonathan Koonce, Randy Mathias, Kenny Allison, and Doc Hayes.
Honorary Pallbearers – All students who rode David's buses from 1971 to 2021.
A graveside service will be 10 a.m. Tuesday, August 17, at Friendship Cemetery in Springdale, with Pastor Johnathan Hoodenpyle.
