Obituary

David Muriel Sargent, Jr., age 55, died on August 13, 2022 in Fayetteville, Arkansas. He was born in Fayetteville, Arkansas on September 22, 1966, to David and Sharon (Saylor) Sargent.

David was a true animal lover and if you knew him, he had no less than 2 dogs at any time. He loved his Pomeranians and Dachshunds.  David was also an accomplished cook and baker.  He loved spending time in the kitchen.  He baked breads, rolls and muffins and sold them at the Farmer's market in Bentonville.

David loved children and making them smile and laugh. He traveled for 25 years speaking to children in schools promoting reading and writing. He was a children's author and as you may have guessed, his books were about dogs!

When his nieces were younger, he had positive impacts on their lives. David used to take them on trips to Dallas just for fun, to Silver Dollar City for the day and would surprise his family with all kinds of things. He had redecorated a room for a surprise, cooked dinner and even painted rooms.  There are so many memories.

David had a sense of humor that will be missed.  He was kind to strangers and friends alike.  A little-known fact that we can now share is that David would provide Christmas to children who would otherwise not have had one.  Not just one child either, there were several.  He loved getting Angels off the Salvation Army Angel Tree locally and in different states.  His heart was as big as he was.

David worked at Kum and Go on MLK Jr Blvd in Fayetteville and enjoyed his work family and customers.

David is preceded in death by his mother, Sharon (Saylor) Sargent, Stepmother, Patsy (Shull) Sargent, his dogs, Mary, Vera, Buffy, Emma, Daphne, Spike, Rocco, Tatum and Autumn.

He is survived by his father, David Muriel Sargent, Sr. of Centerton, Arkansas; sister, Daina Sargent of Centerton, Arkansas; stepbrothers, Michael Finklea of Dallas, Texas and Todd and wife Mandy Finklea of Prairie Grove, Arkansas; nieces, Amber Gordon, April Krummel, Faith Finklea and his favorite in the world, Ashley Kinghorn; 3 great nephews; Landyn, Noah and Chayse. He also had two more dogs, Emory and Bea.

An informal Celebration of Life will be 5 p.m. Wednesday, August 24, at Wilson Park.  The family invites David's customers and friends and anyone's dog to join.

In lieu of flowers or cards, the family has requested that you make a donation to your local animal shelter in David's name.
