Christopher Courtney Curlee, age 62 of Springdale passed away Sunday morning September 15, 2024, in the Palliative Care Unit of the VA Medical Center in Fayetteville, AR. He was born February 14, 1962, in Springfield, Ohio, the youngest son of Robert Burnett and Hilma Lee Curlee. Chris spent most of his life in Northwest Arkansas. He graduated from Fayetteville High School in 1976 and attended college in Texas before joining the Air Force in 1982. He served honorably and rose to the rank of SGT. During a tour of duty in Germany he was diagnosed with Type 1 Diabetes. After being discharged in 1988, he began working for the United States Postal Service. In 1995, he met the love of his life, Carmen Curlee in the Dominican Republic. They were married on April 27, 1996. Chris and Carmen had two children, Gregory Almonte and Kathleen Curlee.
Chris loved God and was well versed in the Bible and loved biblical archeology. He attended Robinson Ave Church of Christ most of his adult life. Chris enjoyed playing Dungeons & Dragons and at one time owned his own gaming shop called Castle House Games. He painted small figurines that were collected by many. He loved history and participated in many W.W. II military reenactments. His deep affection for cats led him to frequently rescue stray animals. If Chris couldn't provide them with a permanent home, he'd tirelessly find them a loving family. His zest for life, unwavering faith, and devotion to his family were the qualities that truly defined him.
He dedicated his life to his family and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, Hilma and Robert Curlee; sister, Loveta (Larry) Dean. Chris is survived by his wife, Carmen Curlee; two children, Gregory Almonte of Springdale and Kathleen Curlee of Washington DC; three brothers, Robert Curlee Jr. (Carrie) of Grass Valley CA, Steven Curlee (Kathy) of Roswell GA, Phillip Curlee (Stefanie) of Elkins AR; sister, Jennifer Curlee of Fountain Valley, CA; numerous nieces and nephews; great nieces and nephews. Chris was loved by everyone who knew him and his life is not over for he has an eternal life with our heavenly father.
Funeral services will be 2:00 p.m. Saturday, September 21,2024 at Robinson Church of Christ in Springdale. Visitation will be from 12:00 p.m. until 2:00 p.m. prior to the service. Interment will follow at Shumate Cemetery near Durham. Funeral arrangements are under the direction of Heritage Funeral Home of Springdale (479)751-2444.
