Carrie Rachel Daniels Traxler, age 83 of Elkins, died Wednesday, July 13, 2022. She was born November 14, 1938 in Gilham, Arkansas, to Robert J. Carrie Venus (MCCulley) Roberson.
Rachel, the name she was known by, lived a mostly happy life with its ups and downs, but always knew things were in God's hands. She became a Christian in December of 1956. It was frigid Sunday in Kansas and ice had to broken in a pond for her baptism. She never retired as a follower of Christ. Rachel was a cook with Springdale Schools for several years and then worked for 21 years cleaning homes in Fayetteville. Her last and most enjoyable was as an aide and monitor on the special needs school bus in Elkins. Rachel met Norman Traxler in the fall of 2010. They married in September of 2012 and made many enjoyable trips together. They enjoyed hiking and finding waterfalls, most memorably one at Mount Rushmore.
She is survived by her son, Mark Daniels of Elkins; one brother, Edward Roberson of Toledo, Washington; a sister-in-law, Flora Goldsmith of Fayetteville; one brother-in-law, Edward Daniels of Sacramento, California; several nieces and nephews; many brothers and sisters in the Church of Christ; and two special friends of many years, Sue McDonald of Olive Branch, Mississippi and friend since the 6 th grade, and Joan Roberts of Sanford, Colorado, her rock and go-to friend in many a bad times.
She was preceded in death by her first husband of 56 years, Melvin G. Daniels; her second husband, Norman Traxler; one brother, Clifton Roberson; one sister, Pat Reed including her husband Doug.
A memorial gathering is being planned and will be announced.a
