Calvin Autry Puryear of Springdale, Arkansas passed away on September 1, 2026 at Washington Regional Hospital in Fayetteville, Arkansas, at the age of 100. Calvin was born December 2, 1925 to David Puryear and Bertha Morriss in Spring Valley, Arkansas.
Calvin lived in the Northwest Arkansas his entire life. Shortly after high school, Calvin joined the Army and served his country during World War 2. Shortly after the war, he married Ruth Elizabeth Sameuls. Together, they had two children, Sander and Danny. Calvin’s professional career was in construction management working for companies like Cox Cable. He was a lifelong member of Elm Dale Baptist Church in Springdale, and he served as a deacon for his church. Calvin loved fishing and the Arkansas Razorbacks, and he enjoyed gardening and taking long walks.
Calvin was preceded in death by his wife, Ruth Puryear (Samuels); one son, Danny Puryear; and three brothers, Albert Puryear, Glenn Puryear, and Curtis Puryear. Calvin is survived by one daughter, Sander Puryear of Springdale, AR; two grandchildren, Clint Thomas of Fayetteville, AR and Anita Thomas of Senora, AR; and four great-grandchildren, Avery Thomas, Joseph Thomas, Dustin Shepherd, and Derek Shepherd.
Graveside services for Calvin will be 10:00 a.m. Tuesday, September 8, 2026, at Morriss Cemetery near Spring Valley, AR.
