IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Bernyce Marie
Anderson
June 6, 1920 – December 22, 2021
Bernyce "Bea" Anderson passed away on December 22, 2021. Bea was born on June 8, 1920 to Margaret and Anton Felling, at Suk Centre, Minnesota. She was preceded in death by her husband, Millard Anderson, on November 20, 1998. Bea is survived by stepson David Anderson of Champlin, MN.; numerous siblings, nieces and nephews.
She was a graduate from UCLA, Los Angeles with a B.A., and a Master of Library Science from George Peabody/Vanderbilt University.
As a woman of about 25, Bea responded to an advertisement seeking teachers for the young children of military families. From the mid-1940s and continuing through the '50s and '60s, she traveled the world as a single woman stationed at U.S. military bases in France, Germany and the Philippines. She taught in Elementary Schools in Southern California, and in Military Dependents' Schools in Yokohama, Japan, Orleans, France, Augsburg, Germany, Hanow, Germany, Darmstadt, Germany, Navy Dependents' School, Sangley Point, Philippines, and Marine Corps Schools at Quantico, Va., from which she retired as Librarian from Ashurst Elementary School. Bea primarily taught history and social studies, furthering her own education along the way. She took a course in European cuisine and lifestyles at one stop in her travels, the history of Russia at another.
Bea's career was capped by an assignment as a librarian at the Quantico, Va., Marine Corps base. When she was 54, a sister introduced her to the man who she would marry: Millard Anderson, a widower, a veteran and recipient of the purple-heart medal. The couple ended up in Arkansas and lived first on Beaver Lake, then built a house in Springdale. He died in 1998.
In her '90s, Bea took her last trip. She went to Spain, traveling with her very good friend, Sandra Keene. The two also had gone to Israel, Bea always photographed in one of her signature hats. Bea volunteered at Springdale Memorial Hospital for nine years; RSVP (Retired Senior Volunteer Personnel), Literacy Council, and was active and dedicated member of St. Raphael's Catholic Church. Bea enjoyed being a homemaker, flowers and gardening, and was an avid traveler of the world.
A Rosary will be recited on Thursday, December 30, 2021 at 9:30 a.m., and the Mass of Christian Burial will follow at 10:00 a.m., at St. Raphael's Catholic Church in Springdale. Bea will be buried in the Fayetteville National Cemetery next to her husband.
