Benta Jonaie, age 69, passed away on Monday, May 12, 2025 at home surrounded by loved ones. He was born on June 20, 1955 in Ebon, Marshall Islands to the late Jonaie Komej and Kemlet Limkadre. Benta dedicated his career to public service, first as a police officer and later as an immigration officer in the Marshall Islands. After moving to Arkansas, Benta continued to serve his community through his work with the Springdale School District. He was a devoted member of the Marshallese United Church of Christ in Fayetteville. Benta's faith was an important part of his life. Beyond his professional and spiritual commitments, he found joy in playing baseball and following his favorite sports teams. Known for his friendly nature and quick wit, Benta always had a joke ready to share, bringing smiles to those around him. He was preceded in death by his wife, Anet Jonaie; daughter, Adalina Term.
Benta is survived by two children, Leroy Jonaie and his wife, Lucy of Springdale and Alinda Schmidt and her husband, Ted of Springdale; eleven grandchildren, Pheona, Rosie, Martha, Drake, Isaac, Ruth, B.J., Chanet, Leana, Elizabeth and Ajji; ten great grandchildren, Zekiah, Hardy, Eliana, Royalty, Lovely, Tiana, Analeia, Pricilla, Zion and Ethan; nine siblings, Alentino, Hermina, Markie, Kyoto, Masao, Kilton and Marine, Emil and Breadly; numerous nieces and nephews.
Funeral service will be 10:00 a.m. Friday, June 6, 2025 at Marshallese JRD/UCC in Fayetteville, Arkansas. Interment will be 2:00 p.m. Saturday, June 7, 2025 at Friendship Cemetery in Springdale, Arkansas.
